You may have noticed the big red bar that cuts diagonally across the blog header or may not have. I’m trying to figure out the best way to communicate my thoughts going forward and WordPress.com is just a bit to clunky and jerky for me to stick around.

What am I switching to? I have some ideas about how I’m going to build a homebrew tool that uses some APIs like twitter and tumblr to do the journal stream and a custom tool for putting up longer form essays, but we’ll see. As for right now I’m dabbling about in tumblr.

I’ll leave this blog up as an archive. Other than that I probably won’t be around here at all. If you want to find me for sure hit darkfirestudios my personal site or just google me (“Regis Frey”). Goodnight interwebs and you’ll hear from me soon.

I’m thinking of making a tumblr for this and running with these stupid headline enhancements. Any thoughts? Anyone there? Who cares I think I’m going with it.

Filler

My week has been pretty crazy between getting back from GenCon, moving in and starting orientation at Pitt, and still trying to finish personal projects. In the chaos I’ve managed to have a lot of fun, meet some new people, and even get some stuff done. All in all it’s been an excellent week. I just hope I’m ready when classes start next week.

In relation to GenCon: I’d like to write a post that summarizes my experience highlights my favorite parts, and showcases the notes I took on the “Indie Game Development Workshop” seminar series organized by Luke Crane. That is a long post however so I’m gonna have to hold off until I have a) Time and b) a Camera.

That’s all for now and I can’t wait to write more. good day.

Geeking Out Pre-GenCon

Well they say getting there is half the fun. Here’s some photos from our short trip.

GENCON coverage by a “respected” source

So….. I’M GOING TO GENCON! Primarily for business reasons (market research) but also because it seemed like fun. Gosh. Well my youTube channel hasn’t seen much action and my twitter account has been lying idle and this blog could use some good fuel wood, which, is one thing GEN-CON provides (which is probably much lower on their list than the to-do item “actually pay people back for things you used”). So in an effort to help myself remember the event along with a desire to try and enhance at least the quantity (if not quality and relevance) of articles on this blog I plan on trying to chronicle my experiences at the show. So if anyone does read this rag, that’ll be the focus this coming week. I’m gonna try and pump out an entry each day and 2-3 videos every day of the conference. We’ll see how it goes; it should be a blast.

Adulthood sucks.

I’ll keep this short.

I’m 18, and watching “Bridge to Terabithia” dredged up a regret from my not-at-all distant youth. I read about Narnia with rapture and yes I do occasionally check wardrobes. I went through school with Harry always hoping to get a delayed owl inviting me into the wizarding world. Oh and I’ve waited 8 years for a long lost or mysterious uncle to emerge out of the night bringing a story of my true heritage and an invitation, no, request, for me to come to the aid of a dimension blighted by some form of malevolence. But, alas no such call to heroism came. Still even now at 18, past the prime years for worlds of fantasy (heck, at 18 you can’t return to Narnia until you die), I find slight hope in the cool analysis of the collective unconscious presented in the work of Joseph Campbell. The myths will always live on in me and I look forward to fostering them for my children and if I’m lucky other children too. It’s a small relief that there will be another generation with another promising 18 years of fantastic opportunity, and perhaps my art can inspire fanciful bouts of imagination in them.

Still, adulthood sucks.

Just Some Writing I’ve Done

Figured I might as well share some of the words I put to paper. I don’t mind critique if you are kind about it. Writings after the jump.

Dr.Horrible is Wonderful

wonderful short web series

wonderful short web series

For me it has encouraged me to push on my projects so I can get to writing my own web series before my star outgrows his role. My goal then will be to strive for the production values that Joss Whedon’s work has. It’s all about the professional feel mixed with the great indie concepts. I’m gonna watch it five or six more times just to enjoy it (favorite line: “Captain Hammer threw a car, at my head”). Suddenly the 19th has become incredibly significant.

My Week (and dinner)

So I’ve been housesitting with two dogs and it’s been… strange annoying relaxing stressful fun character building, yeah that’s it. Anyway, I get to experience living alone (amplified by the huge house), keeping myself fed, organizing my time, taking care of animals, and keeping busy. It’s all a little overwhelming but ultimately is very good prep for college. I did manage to make myself  decent egg based (it was going to be an omlete) dinner. Well here are a few pictures:
